Welcome to Hatch-a-holics Anonymous

Welcome to Hatch-a-holics Anonymous. This is a place we can share our addiction to hatching Poultry eggs. One might think a place like this is to help kick the habit but I believe it will be more of a place to enable one another. LoL

There will be updates on my story and others so check back often…. :)

I look forward to hearing from you….

Batch 7 or is it 8?

We just took out another batch of Bantam eggs and are waiting for them to hatch. I  was seriously considering buying a second Sportsman the other night. We only have 160 eggs in the incubator now but have so many more we could be incubating. LOL

Round 3 for 2011

We took the third batch of chicken eggs out of the incubator into the hatcher last evening. Our first swap of the year is this Saturday in Fork Union so we’re hoping to re-home a bunch of round 1 chicks…. Next week is Charlottesville swap so there we’ll have round 2 chicks and whats left of 1. Pictures soon I promise.

Second batch for Spring

The second batch of eggs comes out of the incubator this evening. There are approximately 50 Silkie and Mille Fleur eggs in this batch.

First hatch

Well we ended up with 60 fuzzy butts out of this batch. Ameruacana Silkie and Mille Fleur.

All happy and healthy. The Mille’s were sold before they hatched so there are more in the bator.

Been way too long

The tasks of Winter keeping 25+ birds warm and healthy leaves little time to blog for me. We are just starting our 2011 hatching with 65 chickens eggs. There was one pipped this morning before I left work so I’m hoping for fuzzy butts in the bator when I get home.

Can’t take the heat!!!!!

After a weekend of record breaking high temperatures I’m quite grateful for 85 degrees.

Last evening I went outside in  the evening and it was 90 but felt good. I think that is the first time in my

life I ever thought 90 degrees felt good.

Getting NUTZ now… BLAaaahhhh!!!!

Since we have not been able to hatch Guineas fast enough we bought 100 Keets and they arrived last week. That puts our total number of birds in the house at over 200. There are still 180 eggs in the incubator and 40 in the hatching bator hatching now. 0-0

Sleep is hard to come by any more with all the peeping and yelping of the Turkey Poults. I’ll be REAL glad when the Poults are old enough to move outdoors or be bought…

Whew…. Been too long

I’ve been far too busy to post here lately. This is the busiest time of year for me at work and at home, forget it. Barely enough time to breathe… Hatching like crazy now. Turkeys, chickens, Bob White Quail, Button Quail, Ducks and Guineas. There are birds of various ages in 5 of our 6 room house. I CAN”T put any in the bedroom. As it is all I hear all night is Peep…Peep…Peep.. Lol

The madness begins

Turkeys hatching, Chickens hatching, Guineas hatching, Ducks hatching soon…

I need more space for Brooders real soon.

Hatching as I type

19 eggs in the hatching bator. 14 from shipped eggs. The Blue Bearded Silkies and 5 mystery Bantams from a friend.

2 of the Blue’s which were shipped have hatched and 3 of the Mystery Bantams which are a tan color.
I hope to see more Fuzzy Butts in the bator when I get home tonight…. :)
